View from Deer Park in Olympic National Park, Washington

I am terribly excited for this school year to start. Luckily all of my classes this quarter are either environmental science/studies- or biology-related, no silly distribution requirements like “Aspects of Love” or “Poetry of Social Protest in the Middle Ages” (uff). Let’s see, I’m taking:
-Environmental Law & Policy of the Great Lakes (linkage seminar with Nathalie and maybe Lindsey?)
-Plant Evolution & Diversity Lab
-Field Ecology (where we go out into the nature preserve, take data, and analyze it)
-senior thesis seminar (what what what)

Terribly, terribly excited!

In other news, yesterday was pretty much the best possible day. It hasn’t rained in a while, so it was quite welcome yesterday morning as I walked to work. My jeans got soaked, but I wore my awesome hiking boots so my feet were toasty and dry. I worked a few hours, then went to muay thai and paired up with Louis, the man with the best shoulders in the world. There was a new kid there, I think about 10 years old. It was pretty cute to watch him learn how to punch. After thai boxing I bumbled over to Nathalie’s, ate a delicious warmed up pumpkin cinnamon roll, homemade falafel and chipotle hummus, some wine, and way too much “Indulgent Trail Mix.” We flopped around on her bed and watched Howl’s Moving Castle before heading over to Xanadu for Pepper’s birthday party. Really a good day. Super pleased.

Panda Bear's visuals through a kaleidoscope.

Titus Andronicus through an ice cube tube.

Pitchfork in a Few Words:
The Tallest Man on Earth: Cute and beautiful voice as always, but he was kind of haggard. ):
El-P: Entertaining.
Liars: Ew.
Robyn: Best of Friday!
Broken Social Scene: Ehhhh.
Modest Mouse: Mehhhh.

Real Estate: BUY HOUSES.
Delorean: SO GOOD. Favorite of the bands I didn’t know of beforehand.
Titus Andronicus: Surprisingly good and less grating than I thought it would be.
WHY?: Probably my favorite of the weekend.
Wolf Parade: Actually really good and much more exciting than I was expecting.
Panda Bear: Snooooozers.
LCD Soundsystem: Superdance!

Washed Out: Boomboombing.
Local Natives: Pretty damn swell, though they seemed out of sync at a few moments. I was glad to have a band to which I could belt out the lyrics like a fool.
Surfer Blood: Dandy! Lead singer was a little strutter, the bassist had the best smile.
Major Lazer: BALLER.
Neon Indian: Good, but quickly boring.
Pavement: Good songs, but sort of uneventful as the festival’s closing act.

Super tasty bratwurst with rémoulade from the Wishbone food vendor.
